Questions and answers
What is Kadena?
Kadena is a proof-of-work blockchain that runs 20 chains in parallel, called Chainweb, with smart contracts written in Pact. Its coin is KDA. Since November 2025 it has been maintained by the community as Kadena Community Edition.
Is Kadena still running after Kadena LLC shut down?
Yes. Kadena LLC announced it was winding down on October 21, 2025. Former Kadena engineers and community developers released the Community Edition node, which took over at block 6,335,858 on November 8, 2025. Miners kept mining and the chain kept running, with the same KDA and accounts.
What is Kadena's block time?
Each of Kadena's 20 chains targets one block every 30 seconds, so the network as a whole adds about 40 blocks a minute. The Kadena Network Monitor shows the live average block time and every block as it lands.
How many chains does Kadena have?
20. Each chain links to three others in a braided pattern, so the chains confirm each other's blocks. Your account has the same name on every chain, and KDA can be moved between chains.
What is the maximum supply of KDA?
1 billion KDA on paper. In practice the protocol creates 990 million: 700 million paid to miners as block rewards over about 120 years, on the same schedule as before the Community Edition, and 290 million in genesis allocations. Of the platform share, 87,344,000 KDA was never claimed and has been frozen since the November 2025 fork. Full breakdown: KDA tokenomics after the fork.
How is Kadena mined?
With proof of work using the Blake2s hash, on dedicated ASIC miners. Miners connect to a pool or run their own node. Kadena Nexus is building open-source solo mining at mine.kadena.ws.
Is Kadena quantum safe?
Not yet on mainnet, but the work is far along. Community developers are adding q: accounts signed with SLH-DSA (SPHINCS+), a hash-based signature that quantum computers cannot break. Quantum-Safe Kadena explains how it works and tracks progress.
Where can I see Kadena blocks and transactions?
The Kadena Network Monitor shows blocks on all 20 chains, throughput, confirmation times and where the nodes are. To look up a single transaction or account, use a Kadena block explorer.
How do I buy KDA?
On an exchange that still lists it (Gate.io or AnonKyc), by bridging USDC to Kadena and swapping on a Kadena DEX, or person to person on the Kadena P2P Marketplace. See How to buy KDA for each route step by step.
How can I earn KDA?
Kadena Earn pays KDA for community tasks such as testing apps, reporting bugs and writing guides. You can also mine KDA.
Which wallets work with Kadena?
Linx Wallet, eckoWALLET, Zelcore and Chainweaver are self-custody wallets listed by the Kadena Community Edition site. Keys and accounts from before November 2025 still work.
What is Pact?
Pact is Kadena's smart contract language. Contracts are stored on chain as readable source code, and Pact is designed to be checked with formal verification before deployment.
How is Kadena adoption measured?
The Kadena Community Edition Adoption Index combines five weighted on-chain signals into one daily number, with a public methodology.
Is Kadena Nexus the official Kadena team?
No. Kadena Nexus is an independent community project, not affiliated with Kadena LLC. It works alongside the kda-community developers and the community DAO, building tools for Kadena Community Edition.
